Good Little Knife Mar 09, 2011
By GerberMan I dont know if this knife belongs in the ULTIMATE SURVIVAL SERIES BUT it is a good little knife. It is small and very compact. Blade is sturdy, sharp, and high carbon steal. The blade is great 3.3 inch hefty blade with an OK serrated edge. It locks in tight with a small back lock. Clearly set out to do work but it lacks in weight and a good handle. The knife has two thumb studs for easy opening but it take two hands to open this knife. Perhaps thats just because its new though...All the items in Bear's collection have rubber handles but this handle is rather slick, VERY small in the hand, and the plastic ends seem cheap and easily breakable. However, for $20 you cannot go too wrong. But make sure you buy this item on amazon.com NOT in stores. In stores I have seen them cost up to $50!!!!!!

Good EDC May 06, 2011
By J.Twain This is totally not the knife you want to bring to a jungle and expect it as a great knife on your survival trip because this knife is built with scouting in mind, which means you use this knife for only a short period of time and some light works. Well, in that case, this is just a right knife for you, but not for me. Why can't this knife be the ultimate knife that you can bring to every place in the world? The reasons are obvious: First, it is a carbon steel knife that it will get rusted in water easily; It won't survive a week in the sea. Second, the plastic handle is very cheaply made according to me; Great for lighter weight, but not for quality! Third, the pivot point of this knife uses a removable screw that will got loosen in time to come.
I will say this knife is only great for backup because of its lightweight and its good carbon steel blade.
PS. I don't like the serration, but this serration does helps a lot for cutting ropes. For normal person like me, There ain't a lot of ropes to cut, so this knife is totally not for me.

Would make an OK "every day carry" folder. Mar 26, 2011
By J. Mandrell I admit up front, I am not a fan of Bear Grylls, and not the biggest fan of Gerber knives either.
But when I saw this folder I liked the over all design, so bought one to give it a try. It's lightweight and the handle is very ergonomic. No steel liners in the handle, so it's definitely not a hard use knife, and should never be batonned.
Out of the box, the lock is solid with no blade play and the blade is literally "hair popping" sharp.
The pocket clip, is not reversible for southpaws, so that was a bummer, and it's not really removable either, since it's incorporated into the pivot screw.
Overall, I like it, I see no problem using it as a normal "EDC" knife that should do everything you would reasonably want from a pocketknife.

Good quality hard to open Jan 18, 2012
By Cipher I ordered this knife because I carry a folding knife on me all the time and was attracted to the fact that it doesn't look like a tactical dragon slaying knife. I primarily use it as a utility knife but also want something that can be used for self defense should it ever come down to it. This knife meets those needs. The clip on the knife if flush to the top of the grip so nothing sticks out of the pocket except the clip (Good concealability). The clip is also super tight so it will not accidentally snag and pop out of your pocket. The knife is very light weight so you will forget you are carrying it. The grip also feels good in the hand. The grip is all plastic so this shouldn't be a knife that you intend to give heavy rugged use to. Overall, for the price it is a great knife. On the down side, the knife is not as easy to open one handed. I have lubed it and also spent some time opening and closing it to try and give it some break in. It is still very tight. I'm a big guy with big hands and I have to put some effort into opening it with one hand.

I would call it an average knife for the price Jan 04, 2012

Being from small town Wisconsin I've been carrying some form of knife basically my whole life. After losing my Gerber 30-000257 Drop Point Partially-Serrated-Edge Swagger Clip Folding Knife down the hole ice fishing I had to purchase another knife. The store I went to did not have another Swagger but did have this knife. I find this knife pretty average. It holds an edge O.K. The fit and finish is lacking. I am really worried about the fact that hinge for the blade is screwed in instead of riveted. This may cause some issues in the future with the blade getting loose or completely falling off. Also when the knife is folded in the tip of the knife sticks out a little which has already got caught on stuff for me. In the end I would just call this knife average and for someone that doesn't use a knife to often. I am probably going to purchase another knife for everyday use that can handle a multi year every day beating. The pros of the knife are that it looks pretty cool and the handle feels comfortable yet weak in your hand.
